Path to Healthy and Sustainable Materials

AIA (HSW), IDCEC, GBCI Accredited: 1 hour

Key design considerations for our building materials have been performance, cost and esthetics. But what happens when we add human health and environmental sustainability to that list? With the launch of LEED v4, the definition of green materials is changing – awarding credits for using building products that disclose data about potential environmental impact, product ingredients and their hazards.

This CEU offers insider advice on earning the LEED v4 Building Product Disclosure and Optimization (BPDO) credits without undue struggle, including shortcuts for how to use Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Health Product Declarations (HPDs). If approached correctly, the BPDO credits can help drive continuous improvement of the environmental and health impacts of building products without sacrificing performance, cost, and esthetics of our projects.
